PROGRAMMES
  • Marine Invasive Species

The threat of invasive species introductions is increasing with the growth of shipping, mariculture and fishing industries. The programme provides the mechanisms to combat and minimise these threats through:

  • Increased management capacity and training
  • Development of best practice tools
  • International legislation and policy support
  • Marine Pollution (Prevention)

Pollution from ships and land-based sources represents one of the greatest threats to the world's oceans. The programme aims to provide the tools and support for:

  • Local, national and regional level capacity strategy and action
  • Technical assistance for the project design and implementation
  • Capacity building mechanisms to support existing structures

Effective and efficient management of biodiversity and environmental information at a project, national and regional level can be difficult to achieve without the use of correct information and communication technology. Through this programme, IOI-SA helps to ensure that this technical information is stored, managed and made easily accessible to end users so that it may be used to guide decisions and assist in solving environmental programmes.
